Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services (CONNSACS)
Director of Public Policy & Communication
The Director of Public Policy & Communication reports to the Executive Director,
supervises the Community Relations Coordinator, and is an exempt position.
Duties include but are not limited to:
PUBLIC POLICY:
• Develop and oversee state legislative and administrative policy efforts
• Review federal and state regulations and administrative policies that impact sexual assault victims and/or services
• Issue policy recommendations and identify priority issues
• Oversee work of contract lobbyist to ensure analysis and monitoring of legislation and budget
• Build support for CONNSACS initiatives among community stakeholders, state lawmakers and state officials
• Maintain relationships with the offices of Connecticut’s US Representatives & Senators
• Write and present testimony, legislative updates and reports
• Represent CONNSACS on state committees and participate in allied coalitions
• Ensure ongoing communication with members regarding policy positions
• Create mechanisms to ensure maximum membership involvement in policy area
COMMUNICATION:
• Oversee all CONNSACS communications including website content and the development of fact sheets and reports
• Develop annual CONNSACS media plan and actively pursue media opportunities to promote CONNSACS as the state’s leading voice to end sexual violence
• Build and maintain contacts with press, radio and television outlets
• Serve as a spokesperson; hold press events, write releases, and opinion editorials
• Oversee technical assistance to CONNSACS’ nine community based member programs including communication strategies and support
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successful experience in public speaking and media relations
• Demonstrated experience in issue based campaigns, public policy advocacy or lobbying
• Demonstrated commitment to ending violence against women
• Excellent written communication skills
• Excellent analytical skills
• Supervisory experience
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse groups
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle required
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, Inc. (CONNSACS) is a statewide coalition of individual sexual assault crisis programs that work to end sexual violence through victim assistance, community education, and public policy advocacy. CONNSACS actively seeks and distributes funds to develop and support its member organizations; participates in collaborative efforts to promote social change with national, state and local organizations; provides a forum for the exchange of skills and information regarding the response to, and prevention of sexual assault; and serves as a mechanism for the development and maintenance of appropriate standards of services for rape crisis centers.
Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Norwalk/Stamford
Counselor / Advocate
Counselor/Advocate with Spanish speaking skills for Domestic Violence Crisis Center (FT) to provide counseling/advocacy to victims of domestic violence in Stamford. Bi-Lingual Counselor/Advoccate is responsible for crisis intervention, counseling, and outreach to suvivors of domestic violence and thier families. Will train and certify. Some evening hours, valid license and automobile required. Minimun of Bachelors Degree. Salary Range: $30,000-$34,000 plus excellent benefits.

Prudence Crandall Center
Part Time Shelter Advocates
Prudence Crandall Center is seeking Part Time Shelter Advocates to fill a variety of shifts at our 24-hour emergency shelter. These positions are responsible for providing advocacy, counseling, information, referrals, support and related services to women, men and children who have been impacted by domestic violence. Answering the 24-hour crisis hotline and assistance with all aspects of shelter maintenance and operations are also required. Starting salary: $10 per hour.
Positions work an irregular schedule of 0-31 hours per week as needed
and are required to cover at least three holiday shifts per year.
Local travel is necessary, reliable transportation required.
Minimum of 4 years of related education/experience required. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work with diverse populations, ability to work independently and demonstrated commitment to ending violence against women and children required.

Neighborhood Victim Advocate
Victim Advocate to work with victims of domestic violence and
other crimes
• Risk Assessment and Safety Planning
• Crisis Counseling
• Transportation and Court Accompaniment
• Referral to Other Needed Services
• Home Visiting and Outreach
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree and two years experience in the fields of human
service and/or criminal justice preferred. The ability to maintain and build
positive working relationships with community service providers including
law enforcement, mental health, and protective service personnel is
essential. A familiarity with local community resources is required. The
candidate should understand the dynamics of violence and victimization.
Spanish a definite plus. Strong communication and organizational skills are
necessary. Must have own car and required auto insurance.

The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic offers students the opportunity to combine their academic studies with on-the-job training and experience. In the past, CCADV interns have participated in public policy advocacy, communications/public awareness activities, domestic violence fatality review and data research and assessment.
