Legislation

The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence works with legislators and other interested parties to construct and/or revise legislation favorable to survivors of domestic violence. In collaboration with its members, agencies, advocates, and other coalitions, CCADV monitors proposed national, state, and local legislation and regulations affecting victims of domestic violence and their children. CCADV also advises members and other advocates on legislative and policy issues, proposals, and changes.

24/7 Staffing Signature Cards
Connecticut is 1 of only 5 other states that does not provide 24/7 staffing for coverage of its domestic violence shelters. Therefore, women and children are left alone at the shelters at night when they are most vulnerable. There is not an advocate present to support and comfort them during this traumatic time in their life. Due to this, the victim is more likely to return to her abuser and the cycle of violence repeats itself.

For the past 7 years, CCADV and its member programs have been working to increase access to shelters by lobbying to the state legislature to allocate funding for domestic violence shelters so that they can remain open at all hours of the day. This has been a particularly challenging experience and though we have received a modest increase in funding, the problem still exists in our shelters.

We need Connecticut's help. Your help. We are asking Connecticut residents to support victims of domestic violence by signing a supportive petition card for 24/7 staffing. Our goal is to present every card signed to the legislature in hopes of being granted 24/7 staffing for our shelters.
