Training & Education

CCADV provides training and technical assistance to strengthen member programs and others working with survivors of domestic violence such as law enforcement, judges, attorneys, educators, faith based organizations, mental health and substance abuse providers.

We develop training and technical assistance resources to address issues such as funding, legislation, program development, service delivery, community collaboration, child abuse, immigration, substance abuse and mental health, the law and court system, social change, anti-racism, cultural competency and other issues as they impact victims of domestic violence.

Certification Training

CCADV facilitates the 20 hour certification/training, per CGS 52-146k for all battered women’s counselors Training includes the following topics/areas:

  • dynamics of battering, including its effects on women, children and other domestic violence victims      
  • crisis intervention strategies and techniques, including Safety Planning - Woman Defined Advocacy
  • communication skills
  • working with diverse populations, including discussions of racism, homophobia, heterosexism, sexism
  • the state criminal legal system and legal protections and options available to victims       
  • information about state and community resources for domestic violence victims
  • sexual assault/marital rape
  • issues related to child sexual and physical abuse
  • confidentiality policies and protections
  • CCADV offers a two-day training for those individuals who are looking to enhance their knowledge of issues related to domestic violence.

Consultation/Technical Expertise

CCADV provides consultation/technical expertise to private and government agencies, provides information and resource materials to the media and general public; provides extensive training to law enforcement and criminal justice personnel, health care providers, religious leaders, drug and alcohol counselors, batterer intervention service providers, and other professionals who seek justice and safety for victims of domestic violence.

Conference Planning

CCADV is available to plan and facilitate conferences for private and governmental agencies around issues related to domestic violence.
