Awareness & Info

Public Awareness

CCADV works with its member programs and other domestic violence coalitions to present a public awareness campaign each October (domestic violence awareness month).  Through television and radio ads, billboards, transit ads, posters and point of purchase displays, CCADV keeps victims and supportive friends and families informed on the dangers of domestic violence, the warning signs and where to turn for help.

The Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project is a collection of approximately 300 hand decorated T-shirts displayed on a clothesline. It is a vehicle for those affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of domestic violence.

The Silent Witness Exhibit

The Silent Witness Exhibit is part of a national movement to promote peace, healing and responsibility to eliminate domestic violence murders in the United States by 2010. The Exhibit consists of thirteen life-sized plywood figures painted in red. Eleven of the figures represent Connecticut women who were killed by an intimate partner in 1996. The twelfth figure represents the number of uncounted women whose deaths were not accurately recognized as domestic violence. The thirteenth figure represents women whose lives remain at risk if we fail to create a statewide response to domestic violence.

Resource Library

CCADV has developed an extensive resource library of books, current research, videos and audiotapes on domestic violence and related issues. Materials in the resource library are available to member programs. CCADV continues to add new materials to the library and periodically updates the inventory list.
